Budget Dilemma

As you know our economy is in dire straights.  Master Gardener activities have very probably never been more necessary than they are right now, yet the support we have known is certainly and understandably in danger.  The Governor has let it be clearly known that the budget will be slashed.  Certainly your county is suffering similar budget woes.

Let yourself be heard!

While it is important to support our activities, VMGA cannot be seen as a political force or as a lobbyist either for local unit support or support for Virginia Tech of Virginia State.  When you present your ideas to your local county supervisors, town managers and legislators, Please do not represent yourself as anything other than a concerned citizen.  Please also remember that it is much easier to get what you want by being reasonable, considerate and well informed.  Every elected official is quite aware that they need votes, and threatening them with your votes will not be doing anyone any favors.

Tools to use.

In the coming months we will be providing you with information:

  • facts and figures about the value of our volunteer services
  • updates about the budget
  • messages from VA Tech and from political figures

Use this information to stay well informed, inform your friends and relatives, and make time to let your feelings be heard.
